Switchover Help For Older And Disabled Viewers   (written 27-02-2012)
People aged 75 and over, eligible for certain disability benefits, registered blind or partially sighted or living in care homes can get practical help to switch to digital tv from the bbc-run switchover help scheme. most people will be asked to pay £40 towards the help, which includes: • easy-to-use equipment to convert one set • an approved installer to supply and install the necessary equipment, and • a 12 month aftercare service including a free helpline the service is free for people who are eligible and are also on certain income-related benefits. the scheme in northern ireland will also provide the option of a freeview hd box to enable those who wish to receive tg4, rtÉ 1 and rtÉ 2 to do so, subject to coverage in their area. other options and equipment are also available, some at an extra cost, and these are outlined in the information pack which will be posted to all eligible people in april. all the options include installation and aftercare.
Bbc Experience Roadshow In Enniskillen   (written 27-02-2012)
Digital uk and the switchover help scheme took part in the bbc experience roadshow event at enniskillen library at the beginning of the month. visitors joined in hugo duncan’s live broadcast from the library and got involved in a range of activities from newsreading to jungle making. visitors also came along to the stand to find out more about the switchover and the bbc help scheme. the next roadshow will take place in newry at the city library on 24 april from 10am – 4pm.
Switchover Ends In Berkshire And North Hampshire   (written 25-02-2012)
If you live in berkshire and north hampshire, you will need to take action on wednesday morning as high power digital television services bring digital and high definition television to everyone. tonight, the first switchover of 2012 will see the number of homes with digital-only terrestrial reception in the uk goes up by 483,600 from 65.6% to 67.4%. viewers in the berkshire and north hampshire area who use the hannington transmitter (and 8 relay transmitters) will have no analogue television from wednesday 22nd february 2012. unless you use cable or satellite to watch television, if you don't use a freeview box or set, your screen will be blank.

A pub landlady in britain has today won her legal battle to overturn her conviction for using foreign decoders to show premier league football matches. it was conceded in the british high court today that karen murphy’s appeal over using a cheaper greek decoder in her portsmouth pub to bypass controls over match screening must be allowed.
Freeview Hd Passes 4.4 Million Devices   (written 23-02-2012)
Uk digital-terrestrial service freeview has reported fourth-quarter sales of 1.3 million freeview hd tvs and set-tops, taking the number of freeview hd units sold to 4.4 million by the end of december. freeview said that sales of hd tvs doubled year-on-year in december and that freeview plus hd now accounted for 30% of all freeview plus dvr sales. freeview also reported that over 90% of the 2.6 million internet-connected tvs sold in the uk to date are freeview hd tvs.

The digital tv switchover is the biggest event in broadcasting since colour television. starting in the itv border region in autumn 2008 and finishing in 2012, television services in the uk will go completely digital, itv region by itv region. the old analogue television signal will be switched off and replaced by a digital signal which will provide a greater choice of channels. any tv set that's not converted to digital when the switchover takes place will no longer receive tv programmes. every tv set you want to keep watching in your home will need to be converted or upgraded to digital. what is the switchover help scheme? who's eligible? people are eligible for the help scheme if they are: aged 75 or over, or have lived in a care home for six months or more, get (or could get): disability living allowance (dla), or attendance or constant attendance allowance,mobility supplement, are registered blind or partially sighted. Watch Out For Rogue Tv Aerial Companies In Hampshire’s Digital Switchover   (written 17-02-2012)
Rogue traders are using the confusion over the digital television switchover to try to dupe residents into handing over cash for work that doesn’t need doing. trading standards has warned householders to be on their guard after reports a man claiming to be from an aerial company is targeting leigh park. he told residents they needed a digital aerial to be able to watch television come the switchover in march. but there is no such thing as a digital aerial. if you already have cable or satellite television with good reception there is no need to do anything. a standard analogue television aerial should be fine for digital.
Ten Homes Robbed Of Tv Aerial Cables   (written 17-02-2012)
Officers remind residents to remain vigilant after a series of aerial cable thefts in the areapublished:15.02.2012 police in bedwas and caerphilly are warning residents to be vigilant with the of security of their homes following a spate of aerial cable thefts from outside their homes. in the last 2 weeks, 10 properties in bedwas and caerphilly have been targeted in areas including: castle park, dol y felin and pontygwindy road. it appears lengths of aerial cable, in particular sky satellite cables are being cut in order to steal the copper inside. crime and disorder reduction officer for bedwas and caerphilly, stuart lewis says: "with the recent increase in the price of copper it appears criminals are cutting these cables in order to steal the metal inside. we are currently investigating the recent thefts and i would encourage the public to report any suspicious behaviour immediately on 101." gwent police offer this advice: make thefts more difficult by removing any
